Once an individual develops physical dependence on a substance, they typically experience withdrawal symptoms when use is suddenly stopped or significantly curtailed. With some substances, withdrawal symptoms can be life-threatening. With others, withdrawal symptoms can be extremely uncomfortable, often prompting people to resume substance use to alleviate distressing symptoms.
Medically managed detox ensures that individuals are safe and as comfortable as possible during withdrawal. Available to adults or adolescents depending on the facility, medical detox with Guardian Recovery includes 24/7 care and monitoring by medical professionals and support personnel. Medications and supportive measures are administered as necessary to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, prevent complications, and reduce cravings. Additionally, optional group and individual therapy are typically offered to foster a smooth transition from detox to residential or outpatient care.
Once clients are stabilized via detox, they often move to residential care (aka inpatient treatment). Clients live within the treatment facility 24/7 and participate in a structured series of intensive therapies and activities to support recovery. Along with individual, group, and family therapy employing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and motivational interviewing, clients benefit from psychoeducation, relapse prevention strategies, life skills training, peer and professional support, and various activity-based holistic practices such as art therapy, music therapy, yoga, meditation, mindfulness practices, and more. Based on the substance of misuse, medication assisted treatment (MAT) can be initiated or continued during residential care. Guardian Recovery facilities offer residential care for adults or adolescents.
Prior to discharge, each facility typically provides some form of case management or aftercare to ensure clients smoothly transition from inpatient care to some form of outpatient treatment, sober living facility, and/or aftercare support.
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a step down in care from inpatient/residential treatment. However, depending on various factors, some clients may proceed directly from detox to a PHP. As a form of outpatient care, PHPs allow clients to live at home or in a sober living environment during treatment. However, they visit the facility multiple days a week for several hours per day as part of an intensive treatment program. Similar to inpatient care, individual, group, and family therapy as well as MAT, educational sessions, relapse prevention, life skills training, and holistic practices are offered. Prior to discharge from the program, we offer case management or aftercare to ensure clients smoothly transition to additional care as needed.
PHPs are designed to offer comprehensive care while allowing individuals to maintain some level of independence and continue living at home or in a sober living environment. This approach is often ideal for those who need a high level of care but do not require 24/7 supervision or detox.
Slightly less intensive than a PHP, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a step down from inpatient/residential. However, some clients who have completed or don’t need detox and who don’t require 24/7 care use our IOP as an entry point to care. Clients live at home or in a sober living environment during treatment, but they visit a facility or take part in virtual sessions several days a week for multiple hours each session. Individual, group, and family therapy as well as MAT, educational sessions, relapse prevention, and life skills training are offered.
IOPs are designed for those who need more support than traditional outpatient programs but don’t need the full-time supervision of a residential program. Our IOPs, which include several virtual options, help individuals build coping skills, support their recovery, and develop relapse-prevention skills while enabling them to maintain work, school, or family commitments.
As the least intensive form of outpatient care, traditional outpatient programs offer many of the same services and therapies found in IOP programs. However, the duration and intensity of care is a step down from IOPs. Clients often participate in therapy once or twice a week, as outpatient treatment aids the transition from formalized care to independent living, helping clients to address triggers, deal with newfound stressors, and adjust to their new normal.
This level of care is ideal for individuals who have already completed more intensive treatment, those with milder addiction issues, and those who have strong support systems and a stable living environment.
Various Guardian Recovery facilities offer virtual care models, which allow clients to participate in some or all sessions online, as opposed to traveling to a facility. Virtual care offers added flexibility and convenience while also enabling those with accessibility issues—due to location, mobility, and/or transportation issues—to obtain the care they need from within their own homes or sober living environments.
When formalized treatment ends or care gaps prevent clients from getting the treatment they need, the Path Program steps in to provide evidence-based in-home behavioral health care for those 13 and older.
Alongside evidence-based in-home counseling and behavioral health support, the Path Program offers ongoing therapy, medication management, peer support, case management, and more. Delivered via behavioral health professionals hyper-focused on each client, this come-to-you care eliminates accessibility, transportation, and privacy barriers and ensures continuity of care. The Path Program’s continuous monitoring also aids accountability and helps to prevent relapse. However, should a setback occur, professionals immediately step in to offer residential or detox admission if necessary. In effect, the Path Program brings the treatment center experience directly to the individual.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a comprehensive approach to treating substance use disorders that combines the use of FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies. MAT can reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and help to prevent relapse.
MAT is primarily used for treating alcohol and opioid use disorders.
Intervention services are designed to help families, friends, or loved ones encourage someone struggling with addiction or other harmful behaviors to seek treatment. These services involve planning and conducting an intervention—which is a structured, supportive, and often urgent meeting, where the person in need is confronted about their behavior in a nonthreatening manner and offered treatment solutions.
Individual, group, and family therapy are essential components of addiction treatment, and each offers unique benefits to support recovery. Individual therapy, also known as one-on-one counseling, involves working directly with a therapist in a private setting to identify underlying issues fueling addiction, set goals, work through issues, and more. Group therapy comprises a group of peers in recovery and a qualified therapist, which leads the group. Here, participants share their experiences, foster accountability, and support each other.
Family therapy involves the client’s family in the treatment process as warranted. Along with offering peer support for family members, this type of therapy aids communication, works to heal relationships, educates the family about addiction, and establishes a support system to aid the client following treatment.
Addiction case management is a structured process designed to help clients with substance use disorders navigate their recovery journey effectively. It involves coordinating a range of services and support to address the various needs of individuals. Key aspects of addiction case management include: assessment/planning, coordination of services, support, advocacy, monitoring/evaluation, education, and empowerment.
Addiction relapse prevention involves strategies and techniques designed to help individuals maintain their recovery and avoid returning to substance use after achieving sobriety. We help clients identify triggers and warning signs, develop enhanced coping skills, build a support system, create a relapse prevention plan, enhance self-care, and more.
Mental health and substance use disorders often occur concurrently, a phenomenon known as co-occurring disorders or a dual-diagnosis. Given the complex interrelationship between the disorders, best practice is to treat both conditions at the same time. Guardian Recovery offers a host of dual-diagnosis treatment options that promote holistic healing.
Multiple Guardian Recovery facilities offer sober living environments, which are supportive and structured housing arrangements designed to help individuals in recovery maintain sobriety and transition to independent living. These environments provide a substance-free, safe, and structured setting that fosters continued recovery and personal growth. Clients often live in a sober living environment while participating in our IOPs or PHPs.
Aftercare addiction planning provides ongoing support and resources to help individuals maintain their sobriety and achieve long-term success after completing initial treatment. This phase of recovery aims to bridge the gap between intensive treatment and independent living, ensuring that individuals have a structured plan to continue their progress. Aftercare planning often includes a personalized aftercare plan, continued therapy and counseling, 12-Step support groups, and more.
Once clients complete a program with Guardian Recovery, we encourage them to become active participants in our alumni program. Our alumni program enables you to connect with and create a network of sober peers, no matter your location. Our free opportunities include 24/7 access to an alumni support team, alumni meetings and events, a private Facebook group, a monthly newsletter, and more.

Quality and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. Along with highly tailored treatment plans focused around each client’s needs and wants, we provide evidence-based care, which means our strategies are supported by scientific data rather than warm fuzzies. Our compassionate staff and facilities are fully licensed within their respective states, and we hold The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, the highest level of accreditation for healthcare providers. We haven’t merely treated 17,000 clients over 15 years; we’ve learned something from each of them, enabling us to continually evolve and expand our care to better serve the dynamic needs of various populations. Simply put, we care—about our clients, about their families, and about quality. And that means you can trust us to deliver quality care for you or your loved one.
Yes, insurance usually covers all or part of detox and treatment costs, thanks to regulations such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA). The ACA requires that insurance companies cover all essential health benefits, including mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. Meanwhile, the MHPAEA secures your access to addiction and mental health benefits by preventing health insurance companies from imposing unfavorable benefit limitations.
Guardian Recovery accepts most insurance plans. But the best way to know what is covered and how much treatment will cost is to reach out to one of our admissions counselors. In addition to answering your questions, they can check your insurance benefits to determine roughly how much you’ll pay for care. If you don’t have insurance, additional payment options are available. The call is free and confidential, and you’re under no obligation to enter treatment.
Following detox, some people need inpatient/residential care to ensure their safety and provide the necessary care and monitoring to promote long-term recovery. However, others may be best suited by intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), other forms of outpatient care, and/or virtual or in-home treatment. These outpatient options provide the flexibility to receive the care you need while also maintaining work, school, and family obligations.
We offer various therapies, including individual, group, and family therapy, along with modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). Additionally, we incorporate holistic approaches like mindfulness and yoga.
Yes, some facilities offer medication-assisted treatment as part of our comprehensive care for substance use disorders. MAT is typically used to ease withdrawal symptoms and treat disorders related to some substances. It’s combined with counseling and behavioral therapies for a practical treatment approach.
Guardian Recovery is known for its amazing meal service and well-kept, on-trend, and modern facilities, which feature outdoor spaces, comfortable common areas, and well-appointed contemporary guest rooms. Family involvement is a key component of our treatment approach. We offer family therapy sessions that aim to improve communication, address relational issues, and educate family members about substance use and mental health disorders. This approach helps rebuild trust, enhances emotional support, and creates a supportive environment conducive to recovery.
We adhere to strict confidentiality protocols in compliance with HIPAA regulations. All client information is handled with the utmost discretion, and confidentiality is maintained throughout the treatment process—as well as during the initial call to discuss treatment options. Our staff is trained to uphold these standards, ensuring our clients’ privacy and dignity.

When abused, pain medication and heroin, which are referred to as opiates, cause long-term changes in the brain. Therefore, if an opiate user suddenly stops use of the drug, without medical supervision, experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms is likely. Some reactions the body may have as a result of the opiate deprivation include:
Since opiate withdrawal is painful and unpleasant, those addicted to pain medication and/or heroin often abandon their recovery attempts. However, many do not know there is another way to escape the pain and suffering associated with opiate withdrawal medicated assisted treatment (mat). Mat replaces the pain medication and/or heroin with suboxone. Through the use of these pharmacological interventions, as many as 90 percent of opiate users are able to abstain from the drugs they abused.
