Addiction is an extremely complex and individualized disorder – one that affects men and women of all ages and social backgrounds in a variety of ways. The consequences of addiction range from physical to emotional and psychological. Those struggling with addictive disorders not only repeatedly put themselves in physical danger, but they wreak emotional havoc in their own lives and in the lives of their loved ones. Those suffering from addiction typically also face problems at work or school, and have an extremely difficult time maintaining jobs, grades, and general motivation and productivity. Fortunately, because addiction is such a serious and widespread problem, many resources are available to those looking to recover. While those in active addiction may believe that recovery is an impossible feat, beginning the journey towards a joyous, fulfilled, and substance-free lifestyle is possible for anyone – no matter how far down the scale they have gone.
Drug detox is a blanket term used to describe any detoxification facility that assists individuals who have struggled with drug addiction, and are looking to begin living drug-free lives. If an individual has been using drugs for an extended period of time, or if he or she has been abusing a great quantity of drugs over a shorter period of time, detox will precede long-term inpatient treatment. In this sense, drug detox is utilized to physically stabilize an individual before he or she begins healing emotionally and mentally. Many believe that they can detox themselves at home; however, doing so may prove to be dangerous as well as ineffective. Oftentimes, there are medical complications when it comes to withdrawal. Though complications may not be life-threatening, they can cause unnecessary injury if a detoxing individually is not being medically supervised.
At Princeton Detox & Recovery Center we have extensive experience treating individuals who struggle with addiction, regardless of what substance or combination of substances they have been using. Because the symptoms of withdrawal can be so uncomfortable, and because medical complications have been known to occur, professional supervision is crucial. Not only does medical monitoring result in a more safe detox, but it helps to prevent potential relapse.
Those who have struggled with alcoholism are more likely to experience severe and potentially life-threatening symptoms of withdrawal. Seeing as alcohol is a depressant, it alters your brain function, and changes the way in which your central nervous system communicates. If you consistently abuse alcohol for an extended period of time, the way your brain functions will change in a major way. When use is abruptly stopped, the brain will remain in an altered state, leading to serious symptoms of physical and psychological withdrawal. Mild symptoms including headache, stomach cramping, nausea, vomiting, sweating, and shaky hands, will begin within several hours of the last drink. More serious symptoms of withdrawal will likely begin to take hold within the next 24 to 48 hours. These symptoms may include rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, tremors, severe confusion, depression, anxiety, and even hallucinations (known as delirium tremens). These symptoms can be harshly uncomfortable – even life-threatening if not adequately monitored.
At Princeton Detox & Recovery Center we are available to help. Our experienced and compassionate staff members are accessible 24-hours a day to help our clients with anything and everything they may need. We have licensed medical professionals and seasoned psychiatrists in-house, all of whom work together to provide the most comfortable and successful addiction treatment experience possible. Filling a gap in current care models, Guardian Recovery’s Path Program provides in-home behavioral healthcare for those who’ve recently transitioned out of residential and/or outpatient care. It also steps in when treatment centers are full or geographically inaccessible, when existing residential care doesn’t meet client needs, and more.
Providing care where it’s needed most, the Path Program offers evidence-based treatment including ongoing therapy, medication management, peer support, etc. Eliminating barriers, our convenient care fosters client accountability, helps prevent relapse, and ensures continuity of care for those age 13 and older.
Delivered via behavioral health professionals hyper-focused on each client, this come-to-you care removes accessibility, transportation, and privacy barriers and ensures continuity of care. Additionally, the Path Program provides holistic care to support whole-person healing. Along with life-skills training and employment counseling, the program helps clients connect with peers to foster ongoing wellness and/or sobriety. Are you struggling with addiction to pain medication or heroin? We have a solution that will help you. By integrating the most effective medically assisted outpatient treatment we stabilize and restore our clients to fully functioning productivity.
To ensure your success in treatment, we offer a specialized clinical consultation with a board certified physician.
When abused, pain medication and heroin, which are referred to as opiates, cause long-term changes in the brain. Therefore, if an opiate user suddenly stops use of the drug, without medical supervision, experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms is likely. Some reactions the body may have as a result of the opiate deprivation include:
Since opiate withdrawal is painful and unpleasant, those addicted to pain medication and/or heroin often abandon their recovery attempts. However, many do not know there is another way to escape the pain and suffering associated with opiate withdrawal medicated assisted treatment (mat). Mat replaces the pain medication and/or heroin with suboxone. Through the use of these pharmacological interventions, as many as 90 percent of opiate users are able to abstain from the drugs they abused.

Combining extensive client feedback with sound clinical research, our addiction treatment professionals have strategically crafted the CuraSouth detox and recovery experience to best serve clients and their families as they begin to rebuild their lives.
Detox is the vital first step toward recovery. It is a critical time to build the firm foundation on which an individual’s long term recovery will be built. The CuraSouth detox & recovery experience is designed to make the withdrawal process as safe and comfortable as possible. Rather than detoxing in a sterile, hospital setting, CuraSouth clients undergo detox in a serene, cozy, homestyle facility with compassionate staff and a world-class clinical team.
As our client’s minds and bodies detoxify, we begin to address the deeper roots of addiction. While addressing the physical manifestations of addiction is essential, addressing the mental, emotional and spiritual effects of addiction is also imperative. Individual, group and family therapy is offered in addition to holistic treatment methods, 12-step recovery tools and detailed aftercare planning. Every client completes detox with a clear path forward. We help clients find hope and launch confidently into the next phase of their recovery.
